NISSAN

History of Nissan

Nissan Company entered the material handling industry in the mid-20th century through its industrial equipment division, producing forklifts alongside its automotive operations in Japan. After World War II, Japan’s rapid industrial recovery created strong demand for efficient warehouse and logistics equipment. Nissan responded by developing durable internal combustion forklifts designed for ports, manufacturing plants, and construction sites. These early machines were known for reliability and shared engineering principles with Nissan’s automotive technology, especially in engines and power systems.

Post-War Origins & Industry

Nissan Company entered the material handling sector in Japan during the post–World War II industrial rebuilding period, when factories, ports, and logistics networks were expanding rapidly. Building on its automotive engineering base, the company developed forklifts under the Nissan industrial equipment line, focusing on practical internal combustion models suited for heavy-duty warehouse and outdoor operations.

Export Growth & Later Integration

From the 1970s onward, Nissan Company expanded its forklift business internationally through the Nissan Forklift brand, supplying equipment to global markets including North America and Europe. Later, Nissan’s forklift operations were reorganized and eventually integrated into larger global material handling groups, but the Nissan name remains associated with durable, industrial-grade lift truck engineering.
